Awakening of the Conscience

December 8, 2013 is a date which will go down in Independent India’s history. I was the day the Delhi election results were announced, leading to an unprecedented sense of disbelief interfused with a joyous burst of hope and expectations.

AAP a novice political party of just 18 months had categorically proven that the conscience of humanity may have become latent or dormant but is not dead.

I take you back to my editorial of Volume 11 Issue 2, where I had stated “CHANGE BEGINS WITH SELF”.

I also quote from my editorial of Volume 11 Issue 4 which spoke of ‘PARIVARTAN’.

“In this linear concept of time we perceive ageing and change. Our own physical body changes in measured steps – from birth to demise. The whole cosmos is constantly changing – our physical body, our mind, our perceptions etc. etc. and our endeavour must be to see that the change is for the better of all mankind.”

“The awakening of the youth in India which was evident in the spontaneous support all over the country in December (2012) for the unfortunate gang-rape victim and protest against negligible legal remedies against the culprits in Delhi is an act of reassurance – Humanity is not yet dead and the high and mighty in power can no longer take the citizens of this country for granted. There is HOPE and we can surely bring about change. Borrowing Obama’s punch line – ‘Yes we can.’

I sincerely hope and pray that 2014 will be a game changer for India, ushering in some semblance of morality, piety and humaneness.

I conclude with a quote from Henry Ford :-

“When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.”

Wishing all readers a remarkable 2014 – a year of “Great Expectations.”
