PARIVARTAN – Yes, We Can

Fortunately the Doomsday predictions as interpreted from the ancient MAYAN calendar turned out to be mendacious and humanity on planet Earth heaved a sigh of relief on 21st December 2012, but not before Hollywood and charlatans had made their buck by preying on the fears of the gullible populace. So now till the next holocaust forecast its back to business as usual.

But honestly why are we apprehensive and fearful about the annihilation of our planet when the entire cosmos is annihilated billions of times every second and then resurrected billions of times every second. And this is an established scientific fact. Every cell in our body, consisting of millions of sub-atomic particles is annihilated and recreated billions of times every second. MIND BOGGLING, ISN’T IT! And the apparent continuity perceived by all of us – the solidity of the physical structure of our bodies and everything around us is what the HINDU philosophy defines as MAYA – Illusion!

In this linear concept of time we perceive ageing and change. Our own physical body changes in measured steps – from birth to demise. The whole cosmos is constantly changing – our physical body, our mind, our perceptions etc. etc. and our endeavour must be to see that the change is for the better of all mankind. As I already mentioned in my editorial of Volume 11 Issue 2 – CHANGE BEGINS WITH SELF.

The awakening of the youth in India which was evident in the spontaneous support all over the country in December for the unfortunate gang-rape victim and protest against negligible legal remedies against the culprits in Delhi is an act of reassurance – Humanity is not yet dead and the high and mighty in power can no longer take the citizens of this country for granted. There is HOPE and we can surely bring about change. Borrowing Obama’s punch line – ‘Yes, we can.’

So let’s usher in 2013 with a vow to renounce lust, anger, attachment, greed and ego and embrace piety, compassion, detachment, charity and humility.

Wishing you dear readers all the best for 2013.
