Need for a Sindhi State
The recent brash utterances of a fire brand politician from Maharashtra full of threatening innuendos against the UPites and Biharis, has once again stirred up a hornet's nest. Without getting into the legitimacy or righteousness of the issue what it did trigger was the exodus of a large number of Bihari and U P labourers from rural Maharashtra who simply packed their bags and went to Bihar / U P, causing serious shortage of specialized manpower in the agricultural and industrial sector of the state. That issue is also not of relevance here. BUT WHAT OF RELEVANCE is to note that the Biharis and UPites, maybe over reacting to perceived threats, DID HAVE AN OPTION.
THE OPTION TO GO TO A HOME STATE.
THERE IS ALAS NO SUCH COMFORT OF A SAFETY NET FOR THE SINDHI COMMUNITY.!
I could like to share with my readers the brilliant answer my dear friend DR. RAM BUXANI gave to the Vice Chancellor Dr. Vijay Khole, at the seminar held by the University of Mumbai at the Kalina University Campus on 11th March 2008.
In his speech the Vice Chancellor debated the Sindhi Community's demand for a separate state – “You are a Global Community – would your community really like to become a Regional Community?”
To which Dr. Ram Buxani's apt reply was “Mac Donalds, IBM, Pepsi, Coke etc are all MNC'S, but they have their headquarters at some place in the United States of America, don't they?”
BRAVO. DR. BUXANI. Lead on – We are With You!
This issue needs to be certainly pursued further.
With this issue I have discontinued the regular feature 'Readers Write' as most of the mails we get is similar in content – praise and accolades. And although it warms the cockles of our heart I felt the readers would find in repetitive. But do keep writing suck mail, dear readers, it works wonders for our enthusiasm and spirit.
